I agree the best way to learn a languge is through a class. I was planning to take classes in college. Rosetta Stone from what I've read and experienced it is good as a supplement but not as the main way to learn.

I also recommend taking classes, but I haven't had that opportunity yet.

I think it's worth mentioning the Genki textbooks, workbooks, and CDs as a good learning source. That's what I'm currently using.

learning Japanese in a class room is the best way to learn if a class room environment works for you. i taught English for a little while in china and i found that the kids who's English was the best where the ones who listened to music and watch the movies with there English books. so you need to look at yourself and think how you want to learn.

any ideas on good schools in japan that teach Japanese to us foreigners

in order to get the ds game, you'll probably have to order it online as it's not a major title so it's not coming out in stores anytime soon. As for a method, I use Rosetta Stone myself and find it very helpful. True, the writing portion of it kinda sucks but I had already learned kana from just finding a chart and writing each one like a hundred times. Tiresome, but repetition pounded it into my head. Rosetta Stone is effective in teaching you the basics, but nothing is ever as good as the source of japanese, japan. However, I do agree that the proper class taken is second to going to japan. One website that you may find useful is called sharedtalk.com. It's created by the rosetta stone website and you can chat with japanese people, either by text or voice. Sometimes, they'll ask you if you want to talk by skype, but that happens rarely. The website also allows you have penpals. Hope any of this helps.

Hi! sorry if this is the wrong part to post this in but are there any audio/book packs that you'd recommend? there aren't any classes in my area to help with learning the language I've learnt a little from various videos and sites but would love to learn more. (I'm UK based)
