I am a person who is really interested in manga in just about every way.
And I hear about how hard it is to get accepted into japanese society.
I just wonder since I'm going there sometime in the future and hopefully staying. Is my passion going to somehow get in the way of normal life? Persay If I want to draw manga proffessionally will it not work? Is everyone going to think I'm a crazy otaku gaijin?
Just wondering since I hear about japanese not liking gaijin doing things they're good at.

I'm not quite sure, but I don't think being otaku, gaijin or Japanese, is that bad in Japan. It's probably got more of a stigma here in the states (and/or the Western world in general), for example. Have you heard of doujinshi? These are manga created by regular fans, such as in the anime series "Comic Party." I think that's fairly popular.

Did you know Akira, a late-1980s full-length cyberpunk anime movie, was one of the highest-grossing in Japan (or at least that year)? Anime movie producers, from what I hear, make a killing over there, so you've nothing to worry about. You've heard of Spirited Away, right?

You are way too fixated on what other people think of you. It needs to go if you're going to survive. Doesn't matter if your target living space is Japan or not.

Besides the Japanese are so effing conservative, and closed-mouthed about what they're thinking, even if some particular Japanese man/woman was jealous of your growing skills---they'd never tell you, and/or you'd never know anywayz. Forget about it.

There are TONS of American-Japanese artists, mangaka, doujinshi, seijinshi artists, ect---and they're doing just fine.

One example that I can think of, who's been one of my favorite for a very long time, maybe you know of him already?...is Adam Warren. Check him out on Google even!

IF YOU HAVE TALENTS DON'T GIVE UP! Life is what you make it! It's not true that Japanese are so much against gaijins. Gaijin is more suitable term for a tourist, a person who stays in Japan only for a while.
The ones who don't speak well the language, the ones who don't know well the culture, the ones who make troubles, the ones who don't OBEY their laws - they are all gaijins.
But if you think like a japanese, if you act like a japanese then you'll soon get used to them and they'll get used to you. If you're really talanted, even better than them they'll respect you. maybe some will be envy but that's common all over the world. So my advise is "Don't give up! At least try!"
