I kept my trip basic and essential. Overall for 5 weeks including flights and 3 week j-rail pass the trip cost me 3200 euros. On average each day costed 7,000 yen.

Japan Airlines has filed for bankruptcy, so at this moment in time its future as an airline is uncertain. They are making efforts to keep it going but it's not guaranteed.

I'm not sure if they are taking bookings at the moment, but if they are I would advise anyone planning on booking a flight of exercising caution- if the airline goes completly bust you might not get a refund and have to buy another one to replace it.

I'm not sure which other carriers fly to Japan, but I'm pretty sure most major international airlines will have routes available.

Emirates will introduce direct flights from Dubai to Tokyo in March.

Though, I think I'm the only one on this forum who would fly the route Dubai - Tokyo.
