So today I tried some Udon noodles for the first time. It was instant stuff but it was delicious and I'm definitely gonna try it at a restaraunt.

However, I had a slight problem with eating it. The texture is quite different to regular noodles and because I'm quite a novice with chopsticks I found it difficult to eat it without covering myself in sauce.

Is there a particular trick to eating it without loosing half of it?

Worth noting I had to eat it out of a measuring jug, because we don't have bowls big enough to serve it in.

Also, the chopsticks I use are a little small. I'm 6'6 and unsurprisingly have quite large hands. My technique seems to be right but I end up hurting my ring and pinky fingers.

Am I doing it wrong, or do you think I might need some larger chopsticks?

Udon noodles are bigger than 'normal' noodles and so are a bit heavier to pick up. What i generally found when eating with chopsticks was, if you positioned your hand at a certain length of the chopstick it was easier to pick up certain things. For general eating holding the chopsticks at medium is normal, for heavier foods i found that holding the chopsticks a bit closer to the food helped picking them up easier (so possibly try that for Udon noodles). I find its best to eat rice when you hold the chopsticks much further away and close to the top.

Just my general insight of it

Ahh i see, wasn't aware of the Chopstick etiquette . I would be more precise now with using chopsticks normally than before, picking up small fish eggs individually is not a problem
